The “Mies van der Rohe Haus” in the north east of Berlin has been on my to do list of Berlin Spots for quite a while. Built in 1932 as the so-called “Haus Lemke”, it hasn’t been open for the public until the early 1990’s. After a careful renovation it is since then a place for exhibitions and of course: the impressive architecture of the Bauhaus.
Haus Lemke has been build in a L-shape with the typical clear and modern architecture and massive glass facades. Apart from that, it is surrounded by a huge green garden and the lovely view of lake Obersee. So while it is a bit outside of Berlin, it’s definitely worth the travel. Apart from the Nationalgalerie, which is still in renovation, it’s another amazing piece of Bauhaus architecture from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Berlin, before he went to the US.
