Last week we travelled quite spontaneous to the north of Germany, and to be exact: to Hamburg! So after a two hour train ride and a warmly “Moin Moin”, we arrived in the hanseatic town. The reason for our visit was on the hand the surprise brunch for a close friend, who is leaving Germany until the end of the year. And the other reason was to finally see the famous Aladdin – Musical which has been on our bucket list for quite a while. And wow – the costumes and the stage were so stunning and took us immediately to 1001 arabic nights. . For two hours we completely forgot everything around us and immersed in the wonderful city of Agrabar and Aladdin and Jasmin. We were so mesmerized by the fantastic setup and actors, so if you’re into musicals, you should definitely see this one.
Apart from that, we also took long walks in the city, enjoyed some delicious food and of course some shopping. Hamburg is just a city that always has something new to offer and you’ll never get bored. The charming city center is one of our absolute favorite places. So if you still need some tips for your next trips, don’t forget my last two posts including a small Hamburg Guide (see here and here). This time we discovered a new favorite restaurant named Mutterland – Cölln’s that offers the perfect hanseatic breakfast including crabs and salmon and of course delicious cake. And if you’re into Tapas, you should visit Avelino, which was directly next to our hotel. From the outside it looks quite rustic but the charm of Catalonia and tasty Tapas will directly convince you to stay here.
Sir Nikolai Hotel Hamburg
Even though we have been to Hamburg many times (in many hotels), I always love to discover new places and of course: new hotels! That’s when I saw the quite new Sir Nikolai Hotel, which opened 1.5. years ago in the old part of the “Speicherstadt”. Sir Nikolai is placed in an old counting house and only a 10 minute walk to the city center of Hamburg. When I saw the stylish interior on Instagram and my partner approved because it had many good reviews on TripAdvisor – we knew we had to book it. (You need to know that we get quite obsessed with finding the perfect hotel. We search for hours and days to find the perfect stay, with the best reviews and the coolest interior and yummiest food…yes – we are definitely obsessed with hotels *lol).
But the Sir Nikolai definitely held up to our expectations. When entering the spacious hallway and the cute lobby, I couldn’t help but enjoy my first coffee in one of the comfy velvet chairs. The whole interior is inspired by a British dandy, which makes it so cool but also inviting. This style of course continues in the rooms and suites which all include artwork and premium furniture with lots of gold, velvet and wood. My favorite was definitely the little bar cart in black and gold with several crystal glasses on top – so fancy! And the bath room with its crème-colored marble and wooden details would be exactly the way I would create my own bathroom if I had a house. 😉 If there would be one thing to criticize, then maybe the size of the rooms which is quite small. But then again, it’s more than enough for a weekend trip and if you’re travelling with your lover… .
So what do you think of the hotel & have you been to Hamburg yet?
For transparency: We paid by ourselves for our stay at the Sir Nikolai Hotel – no initiation.
