Travel Diary Cote d’Azur
Quite spontaneously I booked a flight to visit a friend travelling around at the Cote d’Azur. With summer being at it’s peak middle of August, it was definitely perfect timing. And as there is so much to see at the so- called “French riviera”, I would like to give you a short overview of our trip here. Of course, there is so much more to see (St. Tropez, Monaco…) but four days are just not enough right? 😉
Also in case you’re wondering how to get around: the train (for example between Cannes and Nizza) and bus system is really affordable and well-developed so you won’t have too much hustel finding a parking space and so on.
Nice
Nice is definitely worth a visit due to the picturesque old town and colorful streets and houses. So we started our first day with a bus ride and went for delicious bagels at “Emily & the cool kids”.Ê We can definitely recommend this one as our first choice (“Paperplane”) was closed due to holidays. Order a fresh orange juice and don’t forget the delicious coffee and cookies.
Nice is perfect for wandering around and getting lost in the narrow streets. The “fontaine du soleil” is a good starting point for that – make your way from there to the “Tour de l’Horloge” where you can also find the market and many cafÂŽs and bistros.
After indulging in some food and drinks, you should climb up the stairs to the view point of “Ancien Chateau” which includes a waterfall and a breathtaking view of Nice.
Cannes
Second on our list was Cannes which we visited by train (which is probably the easiest and also most beautiful way to visit, as the train rides directly along the coast). The famous “Croisette” might not be as glamorous as expected buit still worth a stroll. There are some fancy hotels and beach clubs along the way and you can easily take the way back through “Rue d’Antibes”.
Here is the shopping mecca of Cannes with many shops along the way and some cute restaurants and bistros in the side streets. We took a short break at “Le Cirque” and went for an ApÂŽrol and some snacks.
Afterwards, you should visit the old town of Cannes “Le Suquet” which offers amazing views of the port as well as picturesque streets – I think in the evening, it would be the perfect place for a romantic dinner.
Antibes
The smallest of these three places but perfect for a quick walk and dinner. On our way back from Cannes we took a stopover here and wandered along the port and through the old town. There is a cute market hall and some squares and beautiful streets along the way.
Finally, we went for a delicious dinner at “Chez Jules” (Bistrot de Jules) that offers a rustic yet charming ambience. The starter plate for two with the best calamari I’ve ever eaten and such tasty tomatoes already filled us, so we couldn’t make it for a main dish. But you should try the Tiramisu as well. 😉
